On Wednesday, March 21, 2024, the leaders of Tanzania Association of Small-Scale Industries and Manufacturers (TASSIM) had the opportunity to visit and meet with the leadership of the Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC) following an invitation from the Council's management led by its Chairperson, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan. TASSIM delegation had the opportunity to present on its goals and activities, focusing on its vision and objectives aimed at contributing to the economic growth of individuals and the nation as a whole through the improvement of small-scale industries and manufacturers in Tanzania. The presentation made by the CEO of TASSIM, Mr. Eliamlisi Mlay, has yielded positive results as it has generated a new partner and stakeholder for TASSIM, which is Tanzania National Budsiness Council (TNBC). The meeting, with its main agenda of introduction, was led by the Secretary of TNBC, Dr. Wanga, who focused on explaining the activities of the Council, which is responsible for creating a conducive business environment for both local and international stakeholders with the aim of fostering Tanzania's economic growth. He emphasized on demonstrating how the local economic chain could be strengthened if small-scale producers, who are the majority, are empowered. Furthermore, he highlighted how political unrest in some developed countries directly affects our economic growth chain. Therefore, he called for regular platforms for dialogue between the private sector, public sector, and the Government to find the best means to boost the domestic economy, especially by involving locals and achieving its goal of 8% economic growth per year. Additionally, the Executive Secretary explained how the Council collaborates with various Government leaders and institutions, including the Executive Committee chaired by the President and those of Regions and Councils, which are responsible for organizing business negotiation meetings at their respective levels. He advised the TASSIM leadership to become members of various institutions, organizations, associations, and NGOs, considering that its members come from various sectors, thus being members of one or more of these institutions. He added that many Tanzanians, who are the target audience of TASSIM, may not have small industries but are economic contributors, most of whom are in the informal sector, which requires TASSIM's support to advance their businesses. During these discussions, the two institutions agreed to collaborate on various matters, including: Collaborating on various researches, collaborating on investment opportunities, collaborating on funding opportunities, professional advice, collaborating on domestic and international tours, collaboration in empowerment and training, collaboration in accessing business-related information, discussing Industrial and Business Policies, collaboration in seminars, conferences, workshops, and exhibitions, including MADE IN TANZANIA EXHIBITION. Last but not least, Dr. Wanga assured TASSIM leadership of being among the invitees to the upcoming business platforms, while also thanking TASSIM for its genuine commitment to stand and advise on the best ways to create a sustainable business environment in collaboration with sector institutions for the broad benefits of its members and the nation as a whole.
