The textile, leather and sisal industries are among the strategic agro-processing industries to contribute to the employment and poverty reduction in Tanzania. However, the industries are underperforming mainly due to outdated information and lack of linkages between the sector information custodians (Ministries, TIC and other Government agencies and private prayers) as observed in information disparity.
Consequently, Policy Makers cannot rely on information provided by these Custodians to formulate well informed policies to grow these industries. Thus, updating the existing information about the textile, leather and sisal industries is highly important. Digitizing this information is also necessary to increase access to the right information for custodians to well inform the policy makers.
Furthermore, it is equally important to analyse the macro environment that the three industries operate to understand the other underlying factors causing their underperformance. Based on that, TIRDO in collaboration with REPOA is deliberately undertaking a data/information updating activity and analysis for the textile, leather, and sisal sectors' factors for underperformance to unlock their potential.
Objectives. Main objective of the Project This project aims at strengthening the Textile, Leather and Sisal value chains growth in Tanzania by establishing a reliable information system for decision making.
